Tangalooma, Moreton Island

It's been a while...but my little blog still feels like home.

I recently visited Tangalooma - for the first time in probably close to 30 years. And I was lucky enough to go there with two little families, with children young enough to find everything exciting.

Here is one of the happy little tackers (I'm like the Colgate ads - I can't show you his face, or mine, really):

Tangalooma
I swear this shot isn't staged - he was just happy to have a bucket and spade. Which, if I'm honest, is probably about all it should take to make a person happy - am I right, or am I right?

If I was to get given a ring...

I swear, I'm not the sort of girl that moons around at jewellery stores or anything, and it's not likely I'm lgoing to be given a ring, but if I was to be given one, this should be it. Just saying.

It's probably not such a bad thing that it's sold out at Bell and Bird, otherwise I'd be tempted to purchase it myself.

The girl in the bubble...

So I'm sick. Again. And it sucks big hairy balls (no offence to the fellas).

But this time, along with the non-descript viral symptoms I've developed a blood spot rash. This caused my ordinarly laid-back-to-the-point-of-horizontal doctor to make "hhhmmm" noises, and mention that I ought to perhaps head to the hospital without haste if my neck gets any stiffer, and not to come into contact with the public lest they catch my disease and die... Good times.

This being the millionth time that I've been sick in the past 18 months, it's fair to say it's starting to get me down. More than a little. I'm sure my boss thinks I'm a complete hypocondriac and wonders why he's hired me for the second time.

And what does an otherwise mentally stable girl do when she's a bit down? She trolls the internet for things that make her laugh. See below for a small example of such things:

Listening to...

Wasted Hours by Arcade Fire...I first heard this while strolling through the Harvest Deli in Newrybar this last long weekend. I immediately purchased the album and have been listening to it non-stop in my office (there are worse ways to while away the hours at work).

As a small aside, a massive thanks to Her Majesty for having her diamond jubilee and giving we Aussies a long weekend. Here's a little tribute to our Queen - long knit the Queen!!

I spent the long weekend hanging out with lovely friends, accidentally outing a friend's pregnancy on facebook via a knitting post, and playing in Banglow which included heavy consumption of home-made rocky-road, red wine and great food xx

The definitive guide to study, by Clementine Inc

Sure, we've all got our own way. But this is mine, and I swear, it's worked every time:
  1. Sneaky small glasses of red wine early in the afternoon/evening before one partakes in study - something about relaxing before studying works for me;
  2. Kumato and gourmet cheese toasties - delicious, but probably of little nutritional value. In any event, it matters not for study purposes; all that stress will sweat the fat out;
  3. Browsing through the latest Frankie magazine - procrastination means your study will be all the more focused;
  4. Listening to fun music, and having a dance when there's no one around - in my view, it's the only way to achieve the "dance like no one is watching" effect. Case in point - Sometimes by the Bandana Splits...

Recent Instagram

God I love Instagram for iPhone. Who needs to worry about such things as lighting and f-stops etc when Instagram sorts all that out for you??

The Bribie Island accidental dog-club. I get the impression that this gathering wasn't planned. They all just happened to be there at the one time.

Bribie Island gulls. Much like gulls from anywhere else. It gave me great pleasure naming these little critters, for no reason other than I felt like it.

I've long loved this outdoor sculpture at the Queensland Art Gallery. If only I had taken the time to work out who it was by.

Paddington Salad Bowl : aka - my place

One of my new year's resolutions was to grow some tomatos and rocket. Mission accomplished...well, planted anyway.

4 x Rocket

2 x tomatos
Sure, they don't look like much now. But I can tell you that I trimmed some of that rocket and used it on a sandwich the other day. It tasted exactly like rocket. Clearly the tomatos have got a ways to go before they're any use to me, but I'm a patient woman -  I can wait

Instagram!

Despite some fellow bloggers' hesitation regarding use of Instagram photos on their blog, I have no such reserve.

Behold this little beauty - captured at the Garden Way yesterday while I was out with my Mum buying tomato & rocket to plant in my little front oasis/yard (tick one resolution/goal partially completed)...

Cool cat

If you've been here before you know I'm not ordinarily one to post pictures of cats...but this one made me laugh.

Happy New Year - 2012

Okay, I'll be the first to admit that the end to 2011 was less than stellar. But I can feel it in my waters that 2012 is going to be a cracking year. Here's a little photo of a sparkler that helped bring in the new year - are you noticing a sparkler photo theme on this blog??

Since things have changed so much round these parts, I think it's time I wrote out some new goals for the coming year...resolutions, if you will.

IT WAS RESOLVED THAT:
  1. I need to stop cussing so much. I could make a sailor blush. Plus, I think lady-like language is the new black. January 1 heralds the dawn of a new language age.
  2. Start dance lessons again - I've had my eye on some ballet classes for a while and they kick off in the week commencing 9 January. Thanks to Queensland Ballet, I'll be twirling like a prima ballerina in no time/learning the first 5 positions. I forsee some swing dancing coming my way again soon too. Whenever Empire Swing kicks off - that's where I'll be.
  3. Grow my own tomatos - I had an accidental go at it a year or so ago, but I plan on making this one a purposeful crack. I may throw some spinach and rocket in for good measure, too. It will be like my own little salad bowl in the front garden.
  4. Go on a mid-year holiday. A friend of mine floated the idea of Thailand, which sounds pretty darn good to me.
  5. Frame this picture and hang it - I just got it from a tiny antique store on Bribie Island yesterday morning with a girlfriend. It came at the bargain basement price of $2.00 - but because I'm so crap at carrying money, I had to borrow 10c - seriously. That's an impressive fro, yes?

Happy new year, peeps. Here's to an awesome 2012!!
